subject: You Can Improve Your Future: Obama Scholarships For Moms [print this page]

Despite the hard times caused by the US economy right now, there are some bright spot ahead that you should look forward to. By offering Obama scholarships for moms, the government is encouraging women to go to college. All types of mothers now have the chance to get a quality education that will undoubtedly benefit their families and future employers.

The funds that make Obama scholarships possible are called Pell Grants. Obama and the government made some changes to these grants to make it easier for moms to go back to school. Unlike before, Pell Grants worth more than $5,000 can be awarded. It's an increase of more than $1,000 over the former maximum for these awards. Because these grants are meant to help low-income students, that means many single mothers are eligible. For this reason, the government is encouraging moms to go back to school. Both working mothers and stay-at-home moms can benefit from having money to help them go to college.

These grants have other benefits to add incentive for moms to enroll in college. Obviously many students choose to attend large colleges and universities. For single mothers couldn't do this, it may have prevented them from going to college. However, the Pell Grants will take this into account. These particular Pell Grants make it possible for a working mom to attend college part-time or for a stay-at-home mom to take online courses. From nursing to business to education, it doesn't matter what you want to study. More important than the major is that now single moms have better opportunities to study.

For single mothers, an Obama scholarship may be just the break to start on a new path. Applying for a scholarship involves a few simple steps. Remember that you need to fill out the FAFSA online. It's the application for federal student aid. It's free to fill out the application, plus you can learn plenty of information about aid that is available to you. The first $4,000 to pay for your education is free according to the American Opportunity Tax Credit program so remember that. It's important to think about this and the possibility of getting a grant when you're weighing your options.

By having the chance to go to college to advance their education, single moms who are working or stay-at-home now have a tremendous opportunity. Government grants and free opportunities do two things. They help moms better care for their families, and they increase the money that moms can make as key members of the workforce. Obama scholarships are meant to give women the opportunity to improve their own future and that of their family.
