TV exposure - This is only realistic if what you're doing is actually worthy of TV time. If you feel like your cause is that important, send a press release to local news stations. Even if you can get a bad time slot, "...charity that was featured on local TV stations" sounds pretty good on a resume. Remember, the ultimate goal of your independent projects and extracurricular involvements is to get some form of concrete recognition and measurable impact so you can talk about it on your applications. Always think of your activities in (A) what kind of results you can produce and (B) what kind of recognition you can generate. If you do this, you will save yourself from doing meaningless things with your time.
