subject: Safest Kid's Beds by:Thomas Mathews [print this page]

Kid's beds are easy to choose if you know about the cartoon that your kid adores or have a theme in mind. However, is that enough? Most of the parents would say 'yes'. However, there goes more into choosing a kid's bed than just the design.

Kid's beds have to be strong and safe because unlike beds for adults, kid's bed has to endure jumping and playful activities. Hence, if you just figure out the design, you will end up with repairs or a new bed for your kid in no time.

Apart from outdoors, kids spend a lot of time in their room. And with a bed, the fun becomes more adventurous. And with siblings or friends over for a sleepover, the bed becomes a virtual playground. From forts, castles to spaceships, a kid's creative mind can put their beds to some most unimaginable use. You can not curb their creativity; however, you can make sure that their beds are fit for their activities.

World over, bunk beds are the most popular choice for kid's bedroom. These beds are not only good space savers but are also creative and designed to last. However, besides being popular, they also account for a lot of injuries.

Bunk beds are not suitable for kids under 6 years. They also have to necessarily meet the Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements. There is no specific bed that can be termed as a safe bed. However, you can make sure that the bed your kid is sleeping on is actually safe.

As long as children consider their bed for their playful activities, there is a chance that they may injure themselves. Though we may teach the children that beds are for sleeping and not for playing, they beg to disagree. And with bunk beds being the most common kid's bed, here are a few things we can keep in mind to create a safe sleeping environment for kids.

Bunk beds should not be placed very near ceiling fans or tall furniture.

It is imperative to have night lights to assist children in using the ladder.

Check the beds and the ladders regularly for sturdiness and tighten bolts regularly.

Proper sized mattress for the bed.

Children should be advised that the bunk beds are a place to sleep, not a place to play.

Taking such precautions can surely assure that your kid sleeps in a safe and strong bed.
