Well here are a few handy dandy tips for avoiding a complete communication breakdown. 1. Repeat what you say, do this especially when it is very important and crucial to the times 2. Clarify bits of information that could be misleading or complex. 3. When talking to somebody, repeat their name several times throughout the conversation to remind them they should be listening. 4. Be an effective communicator by saying things like do you understand or are you following me. 5. When necessary, go back and re-word certain phrases to ensure that they were completely comprehensive. 6. Avoid talking in high traffic areas that have a lot of background noise. 7. When communicating from long distances, double-up on devices such as email, texts, phone calls, and faxes, especially if it is a pressing matter. 8. Have a friend help you explain something in more depth or in a different way or language. Sometimes you can forget the most important part of a conversation and its good to have a helping hand. 9. Use visuals or draw diagrams of what you mean when you are trying to explain physical spaces and locations. 10. Speak clearly and concisely at all times. Especially avoid behaviors such as speed talking, slang, ebonics, or multi-lingual phrases.
