subject: On Site Massage: An Innovative Workplace Benefit [print this page]

There's no special requirements in order to benefit from on site massage and many of health benefits such as the ability to relieve work related stress are widely known. Before any treatment is given your on site massage therapist will ask several health questions to ensure that the treatment is suitable and people with one or more of the following medical conditions should seek advice from their G.P. before considering any form of massage therapy:

History of Thrombosis, Heart Problems, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Skin Disorders or Infections, Haemophilia, Fever, Pregnancy, Viral Infection, Swelling, Cuts, Burns, Recent Fractures, Recent Operations, Recent Scar Tissue, Cancer, Undiagnosed Pain or Lumps,

So, what is on site massage?

Based on a form of Japanese acupressure on site massage comprises a series of gentle manipulations and pressure point techniques which incorporates the head, neck, shoulders and upper back to energise, invigorate and revitalise.

A combination of both traditional therapeutic massage and acupressure techniques can be used with over 60 acupressure points being worked on in a typical massage.

This massage is performed whilst the client sits fully clothed and is excellent for clearing the mind and relaxing the body. To ensure that there is no damage to clothing no oils are typically used during on site massage treatments.

The massage treatments can range from 5 - 30 minutes in duration and the more people there are the shorter the massages tend to be. For example a small office of 20 people would often have 15 or 20 minute massages whereas a call centre with 500 employees would tend to have just 5 or 10 minute treatments.

It is recommended to drink plenty of water after the treatment to replace lost fluids and avoid dehydration. This will help eliminate the toxins from your body. Avoiding alcohol, smoking and excessive tea or coffee drinking is also recommended as these can have a dehydrating effect.

Where do the on site massages take place?

Office treatment will usually take place either at people's desks or in a designated meeting room.

As your therapist will bring everything needed to deliver a stress busting treatment on site massage is also ideal for events with large numbers of people such as tradeshows and exhibitions.

How often should the on site massage visits take place?

Just like with exercise, in order to experience the full benefits on site massage can provide visits ideally need to occur on a regular basis for example weekly or fortnightly. However, even quarterly visits can have a significant impact on employee morale and motivation and will demonstrate to your employees a commitment to their health and wellbeing.
