Carpets are typically used for simple floor covering. Carpets are cheaper than other floor layouts like hardwood or vinyl. Moreover, carpets are also easy to fit compared to other floor layouts. Floor carpets are normally made of different types of fibres like synthetics, and fibre blends, etc. Carpets are available in different styles and patterns. Carpet fitting can be easily done using certain special tools. Though carpet fitting is not a very difficult job, professional services are also available for proper fixing.

Choosing a Carpet

Choosing the carpet is a vital thing in carpet fitting. Many factors like price, thickness, underlay, and quality should be considered. Carpets made using the latest fibre technology are available at an affordable price. It is always wise to purchase some additional area of carpet. Nowadays, carpets are available in plenty of colours and styles. Selection of colours depends upon one's personal preference and room effects. The quality of a carpet should be well examined for durability. It is also wise to seek an expert's advice before selecting the right carpet.

Fitting

Before laying the carpet for fitting, it is important to check whether the surface is flat and free from dust particles. Small particles like stones, sand or nails should be removed from the surface. All materials covering the room should be removed and the room should be made empty. Old floor covering should be removed properly. Once the floor settings are completely done, floor area should be measured and the carpet should be cut accordingly using a carpet gripper and knife. Carpet gripper ensures smooth cutting of carpet using the gripper's edge as a guide.

Carpet underlay should be laid over the carpet gripper. Though some carpets don't need any underlay, it is wise to use it in some cases. Carpet underlay acts as a cushion and prevents the carpet pile from getting flattened. Carpet should be laid on the surface with a proper stretch. Care should be taken to stretch a carpet along the edges of a wall. Tools like knee kicker can be used for proper stretching of the carpet. Then, the carpet should be fixed on the carpet gripper by pressing it along the metal teeth. Once the carpet is fitted, remove the excess pieces with the help of a knife. Carpets fitted in a proper way can provide various benefits in addition to serving as a decorative material.
