1.Find friends online

Facebook Chat is already available on Facebook you dont have to install or download it. Simply go to the Chat tool at the lower right corner of your Facebook page to see your online friends.

Those who have a green circle next to them are online, whilst those with a moon next to their names are online but havent been active for over ten minutes so may not reply to you.

2.Get chatting

To get chatting with a friend, simply click on their name. You can then write your message in the box that appears.

This text will be shown to them immediately and they will have the chance to respond.

3.Adjusting the sound alerts

When your friend replies to you, you might discover that Facebook chat makes a noise whenever they message you if you dont like this, you can go to Options above your list of online friends and uncheck the box that says Play sound for new messages.

4.Arranging the friend list

If you have many, you might like to click Show names only in online friends which means that online friends are shown without their profile pictures. This way more people can fit on the list without you having to scroll down.

5.Going offline

If you want to leave Facebook Chat, go to Options and click on Go Offline. This will shut down the Facebook chat box meaning that you cannot see who is online and no one will be able to see that you are on Facebook.

Evidently, chatting on Facebook can be a quick and simple way of having an online conversation with friends on Facebook. Facebook ensures that you can customise your chat experience so that it is an enjoyable and useful function.
