subject: Five Points For A Hassle-free Getaway [print this page]

Traveling is always a unique experience: its like breaking out of our shells, and discovering the world for the first time. However, there are also times when going to a foreign destination is more trouble than its worth, especially with the current threat of terrorism and third-world poverty in some areas. This doesnt mean, however, that we should just stay home and board up the windows. As long as we choose our destination wisely, we ought to enjoy those in-frequent periods in a year when we can go to a different place, experience a different season and just forget about our everyday lives.

Hold on; dont lose the thrilling feeling of traveling just yet. To help you create your stress-less vacation, here are five basic things you shouldnt do while traveling, especially in a foreign land.

DONT EXCHANGE MONEY AT EXCHANGE BANKS - Banks and cash exchanges charge commissions, so just make sure that your bank card will work in the country youre visiting. You will almost always get the best exchange rate with your bank card.

DONT SPEND MOST OF YOUR HOURS INSIDE YOUR HOTEL - Remember the reason why you decided to go out of town. Staying inside your hotel can give you benefits and would make you maximize the charges yet, it is more exciting to discover the places and best deals around.

Dont try the usual foods - Fast food chains must be really tempting cause its conveniently available anywhere but I suggest you try something different and not the usual thing you can have back home. Have a walk around town and taste the authentic cuisines and delicacies from nearby restaurants. Experience the various mouthwatering and unique foods which can only be best served in the location. These foods will complete the experience you can share to your family and friends when you get back so maximize your stay and enjoy their cuisines.

Dont be tipsy when youre tripping - Its understandable that we want to forget the heavy life of the city so most travelers maximize their vacations by going to local bars and club and chugging a few drinks. Liquors and beers are really inviting in most places because its cheaper compared when you have it back home. But control yourself by not drinking too much. Its best to enjoy a safe life in paradise than entrusting your life with a total stranger who might just be your worst nightmare.

DONT HOLLER FOR CABS - One thing: Riding cabs might cost you too much. Though this may be the most convenient ride, it is better to try trains, subways, and other local public transportation. Familiarize yourself with the countrys mode of transport because its actually more rewarding to commute while you soak up the view of the town.

They say that traveling is always an eye-opening experience. Hopefully with these tips, you get to open not just your eyes but all of your senses. After all, its only a few times a year that we can immerse ourselves in a totally different place, and embrace a totally different culture. At the end of the day, its not all about leisure but bringing home new knowledge of the world around you.
