What are you options when your Prius battery lifespan ends? Are you going to be able to fix this problem, or do you just have to sell your Prius? What can you expect from the Toyota dealer? Hello, I am just another unlucky Prius owner that though going green wasn't going to put a hole in my pocket. Little did I know that the hybrid batteries that they put in these cars are only meant to last 7 to 10 years, which Toyota was not to worried about telling me when they were trying to sell me the Prius. I guess that Prius battery lifespan just isn't all that high on there list of things to tell a potential buyer. So my story starts when I found out that my Prius battery was dying. This is not something I have ever had to deal with before, and I didn't exactly set aside money to fix it. But I am pretty good at research and finding solutions for problems like this so I started looking around the Internet for some information on what other Prius owners had been doing to fix this problem. The three options that I came up with, aside from selling my Prius. So what it all boils down to is this: One- You go to Toyota with $4,000 and they will fix your prius battery problem for you. Two- You can buy a used, or rebuilt battery on eBay for$1,500and install it yourself. Three- You can put new cells in your battery away you go. There is a Guide for doing this online. It will cost you $50 for the guide and acces to the forum-customer support. But it is very much worth it because your solution for your dead battery just went down to around $500 and $400 if you are good at finding deals on cells. As you can probably tell already, I having had no money set aside to fix my prius battery after the life was gone from it, chose to go with option number three. It took me a few hours one day during my weekend to rebuild my own hybrid battery, but it was well worth it to save the $3,500 that Toyota wanted to charge me.
