subject: World Cup 2010 Having A Positive Effect On Jd Sports Sales [print this page]

Sales statistics have been analysed during the lead up to the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and the results have shown a significant increase in sales for the sports retailer JD Sports. With an extremely popular range of sportswear for sale, it was noted that sales had actually increased by 4.1% in the months immediately prior to the beginning of the World Cup 2010. This was in comparison to the sales JDs were experiencing prior to January this year.

Whilst the sportswear section of the market has had pleasing sales increases and profit margins that are looking healthier than they have been in a while, the fashion side of retail has had a small decrease in terms of sales in the lead up to the World Cup 2010. This could be due to the fact that regular fashion shoppers have turned to their favourite sportswear store, such as JDs, to ensure they are wearing the latest in sports fashion, or that they are sporting the latest in JD sportsbags. There has also been an increased interest in getting fit, which could also explain the increase in sales.

With all of the world wide sporting events taking place alongside the soccer, such as Wimbledon and The French Open, it is no wonder that people are getting excited and perhaps even motivated to get back into sport themselves, therefore having the need to purchase themselves a new range in sportswear. Add to this the high costs normally associated with purchasing brand named sportswear, and it becomes clear that sports enthusiasts are turning to a company like JDs, to take advantage of the savings they can make, without compromising on the quality and a designer label.

JD Sports Fashion PLC has long been established as the leading UK specialist multiple retailer of fashionable branded and own brand sports and casual wear, principally through the growth of its main retail fascia, JD Sports.
