subject: 8 Things You Can Do To Put The Brakes On Aging [print this page]

Getting old is unavoidableGetting old is unavoidable. But getting old and feeling old aren't always the same thing. There are some well known things you can do to age gracefully and healthily.

As our knowledge of medicine and the human body have grown, so has the average lifespan. Two hundred years ago what used to be considered to be the upper limit of how old a person can get is now well below the average. So what's the real limit and what really determines how old we live?

Much scientific research has gone into the study of aging, or gerontology. There have been actual, documented cases of people who have lived to 120 years and beyond. These people were not very different than you or me so how did they do it?

Aging is something that can be defined, not just in chronological terms, but also in "real" terms. Everybody knows someone who looks much younger or older than their years and in these cases we feel their real age is different than their calendar age.

The study of aging has discovered some ways that anyone can stay in the "younger than they look" category.

Almost everyone who gets to a healthy old age has the following 8 habits:

1. Regular, fun exercise.

2. A happy, low stress work life.

4. Relationship with spouse and children is happy.

4. A part of the community, involved with friends and neighbors.

5. Curiosity and the desire to grow and learn new things.

6. Healthy and balanced diet.

7. Supplements diet with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants

8. Has a sense of worth and purpose in life

So, where do you stand? If your lifestyle includes these eight habits, your odds of reaching a healthy old age are looking pretty good.
