subject: Cnn Hero Doc Hendley Comes To Miami [print this page]

MIAMI, FL Doc Hendley, CNN Hero and Founder of Wine to Water, is coming to Miami to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit that provides clean drinking water to people in need throughout the world. Hendley will host a kickoff event at Bar Urbano with Juan Carlos Pardo, Wine to Water Miami liaison and managing partner of Bar Urbano on June 30th, 2010 at 7pm.

Hendley will arrive in Miami on Monday June 28th, 2010 returning from his latest visit in Haiti where Wine to Water has a factory producing filters to provide thousands with clean water. He will be doing press interviews that week to give the charity a voice and tell the Miami community how Wine to Water came about and how it helps the nearly one billion people across the globe that lack access to clean water. During his visit Hendley will kick off Wine to Water in Miami at Bar Urbano, he will be doing press interviews as well as meeting with government officials to spread the word about Wine to Water.

Hendley chose to come to Miami after the overwhelming support shown by its citizens. Last year, Pardo contacted Hendley after he saw the CNN Heroes story about Wine to Water. Pardo wanted to learn how he could become more involved and suggested he become the Miami liaison of the nonprofit. This way he would be available to meet with local residents, high profile officials, etc to discuss the nonprofit and how they can become involved as well. The statistics today are mindboggling, says Pardo, I truly believe if more Miamians knew that every 15 seconds a child dies from a water related illness they would jump at the chance to help this cause he continued. Its really great to have Juan Carlos in Miami, stated Hendley, often times Im on a plane or in a remote country where I dont have access to telephones or emails to answer questions or get more people involved. In March, Pardo hosted the first Wine to Water event raising more than $500. Only months later, after an overwhelming interest and support from the community, local restaurants and hotels in the area have showed interest in highlighting the charity in their own ways.

Miami citizens can help in a number of ways, outside of donations. Corporations can host Wine to Water Dinners or Happy Hours for clients and employees not only boosting company moral but also contributing to a great cause. Miamis top realtors can pay-it-forward by donating a portion of their commission to Wine to Water; a drinking well can be built in Cambodia for only $500 a mere fraction of many realtors commissions, and can supply a village with clean drinking water for a lifetime. Restaurants can host their own Wine to Water events or can sell Wine to Waters own line of wine. Others can host their own Wine to Water nights at home with a few bottles of wine. Musicians and celebrities can have a benefit concert, children can organize a school dance, or a community can hold a race or walk to raise awareness and funds for Wine to Water.
