How much of a sportsman are you? Do you love to fish? Do you want to add some excitement to fishing? Try fishing for sharks. These monsters of the deep can put up quite the fight when being pulled in.

Before you go out fishing for great whites, you need to consider a few things. The kind of shark you can fish for depends on the area, as certain sharks inhabit certain oceans and areas of said oceans. Fishing for sharks is also an extremely tiring sport, so, make sure you have lots of upper body strength.

When you are going shark fishing, you're going up against some giants of the deep. So you will have to buy special rods and lines. The typical rod and line will not handle a shark well. You need to get an eighty pound test line at the very least, and use a fifty pound class wide reel.

If you want to fish for sharks, you'll need a few special tools and items. A fighting belt and harness gets strapped to the fishermen and to the boat of pier that they are fishing off of, the fighting belt and harness keeps the fishermen from being pulled off the boat by the shark and dragged to their death.

Most sharks are caught and then released but some have to be brought in during competitions so a gaff hook is also a necessary component. A flying gaff hook is used to subdue a thrashing shark so that it can be brought on board a boat. These flying gaff hooks are dangerous to use and can fly back and pierce the user.

Tail ropes are also needed for shark fishing, the tail rope is used to drag the shark and drown them. Harpoon dart setups can also be a part of the tackle and is actually safer than the gaff hook.
