Traditional disability health insurance began to evolve during the mid Twentieth Century into the familiar modern day health insurance. As the health insurance industry grew and the partnership with the medical health care community cemented together, prescription drug plans began to be offered as the technology became more advanced and safe. In many of the larger corporations of the time, prescription drug programs began to be offered directly through the employer and the employee was only obligated to pay a small percentage of the total cost.

It was not very long before this entire health insurance package began to spread throughout the country. The health insurance providers were beginning to reach those portions of the mass population that until recent years were not factored into the health insurance provider's equation.
