subject: Training Your Puppy To Stop Biting Through Puppy Obedience Training [print this page]

Puppies and children act in similar ways.

Kids feel like biting all kinds of things, from sheets and linens to other things like soap and shoes, while puppies display similar behaviors, biting objects that interest them, including fingers and toes.

Teaching puppies to not nip and bite their families can be done through obedience training. This can even be effective in stopping the habit if has already started in the puppy.

Training puppies in obedience can help puppies learn not to nip and bite people, even if they have been doing so in the past.

There is no need to train the puppy to not bite the leash because with the obedience training they have learned, you can give commands to direct the puppy to the behavior you require of them.

This is the best way to stop your puppy from biting and preventing the puppy from starting the habit in the first place.

It is best to stop a puppy from wanting to bite by stopping the habit from forming in the first place.

Don't punish the puppy or scare the puppy when you give a stern command.

Simply raise your voice somewhat and speak firmly.

Telling your puppy to relax or sit if he bites you is another way to go. You can also stop all play with the puppy if he bites.

While training your puppy, you must be consistent and make sure you don't let the puppy "slide" or get away with any biting. Otherwise, he will learn he can get away with it.

Puppies are like little babies and sometimes they will forget, especially when excited and playing.

If he bites during play, give him something to bite after correcting him for biting your hand or skin.

Once all the training is learned and your puppy is not biting, he can play with everyone in the family without worry and everyone can have fun safely.
