A mac computer is becoming a more and more common site in today's world. The popularity of the machines has come because of many reasons. Many people now own a mac and wonder how they can improve their machines. Mac upgrades allow for a standard mac to be improved in a number of different ways.

Although there have been many different models of macs throughout the years there are some components within each of them which can be upgraded. Instead of having to buy a whole new machine an improvement in speed and reliability can often be brought about by choosing a good upgrade for it. There is a large variety of new and improved components which are always being improved upon and these can be added to an old machine.

The random access memory in a machine is a big factor in how fast the system operates. It stores data temporally in order for the processor to use. When this memory becomes full the system slows down. The memory can be upgraded to prevent this, it is supplied in simple sticks of specified size which are easy to slot into a spare memory slot or replace an old stick.

Data such as videos, music, documents and images needs to be stored somewhere in the system. This is what a hard drive is used for, when this becomes full however no more data can be stored. Upgrading the hard drive can allow for more storage space to save these items. They can also be read and saved a lot quicker by replacing the hard drive.

Reading external disks is done by the cd drive. Upgrading this component can allow for things to be read quicker and written quicker onto a disk. Also new formats such as dvds can be read by upgrading the cd drive to a dvd drive. If one has a correct graphics card the drive can even be upgraded to allow it to play blu ray films.

An important feature of a mac is running 3d applications and watching films. The graphics card allows for this to be done by supporting the processor. Upgrading this component means that more intense 3d applications can be run and can even allow for high definition videos to be watched as mentioned. The cards are easy to upgrade as they just slot into an agp or pci slot inside the machine replacing the old card.

Other upgrades which can be added to spare slots inside the machine can expand how things can be connected to the mac. Bluetooth cards, infra red cards, wireless network card and modem cards all offer ways in which other devices can be linked up to the system and allow for the user to access them from the system.

Money could be spent on buying a whole new system in order to increase its functionality and speed. However mac upgrades mean that this need not be necessary. It is a more cost effective and easier way to get more speed out of a system as well as increasing its reliability.
