subject: Go Away On New Years Eve [print this page]

While just the thought of spending New Year's Eve alone is enough to drive a single person into a panic, last year I decided to get proactive and have a closer look at the array of New Year's Eve vacations. Besides Valentine's Day (which I won't even go in to because New Year's Eve is bad enough), New Year's eve is almost an obligatory date night. So, as a single, of course I had my choices.

Let's see...I could attend some silly New Year's Eve party stag, or drag my best friend/fake date along and pretend to kiss him when midnight came around, or I could stay home with a cheap bottle of champagne, watch the ball drop and celebrate another "glorious" year of being and sleeping with my dog. That's why last year I decided to get out of town and go on a holiday vacation.

Before this, I never knew that New Year's Eve Cruises were so popular, as they presented a large number of available options and ways to spend the New Year's Eve. If the people interested are couples, then there are so many beautiful options - celebrations in cabins on mountains, huge get togethers and wild parties in the Big Apple.

It's not the same for singles though, a bit difficult to say the least, but still something to go after. For starters I was deciding whether I should go for skiing to Park City or Aspen which is host to a number of parties, which meant a large singles' crowd. But instead I ended up on deciding to go for a singles cruise to shake off the mid-winter blues off me.

As I live in a relatively colder' climate, these New Years Eve cruises were perfect. It not only meant that I would get to work on my tan' a little in the Caribbean, but also might scare away my single' status and maybe introduce me to my man'.

Now I had started giving some concrete shapes to my plans. I mentioned them to my friends who all readily agreed that being single on New Years was too bad to experience'. And that was when some really weird things happened which I at least had not anticipated.

Slowly all my friends gave in to this cruise vacation idea and joined me on my Caribbean adventure. Company of so many friends made the idea of going on a cruise trip even more exciting.

The New Years Eve vacations cruise surpassed all our expectations. We had so much fun; we mingled with other singles through specific activities and games crafted to introduce us to each other. Drinking a good amount of Pina Coladas and basking in the sun, I felt so rejuvenated. I also shopped at the various ports we stopped at, buying silver earrings, mesmerizing silk scarves and souvenirs. Now you might ask "so, did you meet the man you hoped for?" Well not exactly. I am in touch with a guy whom I met on the cruise. And the best part is, we all have resolved to again meet each other next year and transform these onetime New Years Eve cruises into a tradition.
