The result is a slim and light 33.8cm (13.3'') ultra-portable machine that measures 16.8mm tall with a starting weight of 1.3kg, according to Toshiba.
"To achieve a device like the Portg R700 we have made major advances in three areas: heat management, chassis construction, and memory chip deployment," explains Rossouw.
Airflow Cooling Technology, co-developed by Intel and Toshiba, allows the integration of the latest Intel Core family processors in the slim form factor of the Portg R700 while keeping the sound of the fan to a minimum.
A honeycomb structure in the palmrest area makes the Portg R700 highly durable against flexing, says Toshiba.
By stacking the memory slots vertically, the Portg R700 can accommodate up to 8GB RAM.
The R700 features standard voltage Intel Core processors and an optical disc drive. According to Toshiba the notebook PC will still run for an entire working day of up to eight hours on a single charge of a 6-cell battery[laptop battery].
Toshiba also says that the notebook has been drop tested to 70cm.
The device supports connection to a docking station which has HDMI and USB 3.0 ports.
The Toshiba Portg R700 will be available in South Africa from October 2010 at a recommended retail price of R12,999.00.
