If you make a mistake, your staff knows it, so own up to it in front of them. If you mishandled a patient encounter and need to apologize, or you reconsider your advice to a patient, let your staff know about your feelings and your intentions to rectify the situation. Nothing breeds honesty more than the example you set for your staff. A foundation of integrity for both patients and staff is the best foundation of all.
