If it is a room that will function for multiple purposes, arrange furniture in such a way to divide the room into two separate living areas, along the lines of dining and living spaces. A strategically placed screen or attractive room divider are usually easy and inexpensive ways to accomplish this. Make certain the room remains balanced and that the separate areas of the room do not try to take over the other.

Another thing you can use to assist in denoting spaces and groupings are floor coverings. Small pieces have the potential to go unnoticed in a sizable room, so you may want to cluster them near your larger pieces of furniture.
