Today most of the people have access to high speed internet and high power desktop/laptop computers. Computers have become a necessary for checking stocks, banking , weather , booking trips etc. This brings up an interesting problem of watching our favorite TV show while working on PC. Fortunately Various gadgets are available which can convert your PC to TV.
Here are some of the solutions to use your PC as TV .
1. Using USB type TV tuner for PC
A USB type plug in device is available which can be pluged into PC on one side and cable or antenna plug on the other side. The accompanied software allows you to change channels and watch the TV channnels on your PC . The TV window can be adjusted for viewing. The only drawback in this solution is that you have to control everything using your PC and it is good only if you are woking and want to watch TV chaneel at the same time .
2. Using external tuner box
External TV tuner box provides more flexibility and allows you to use you PC as complete TV even when you are not working on your PC. The tuner box has a input to accept cable or antenna signals through coaxial cable. The output is generally a vga plug to which any CRT or LCD monitor can be connected. This solution has more flexibility as it generally comes with remote and you can watch it as TV from a distance.
3. Using TV tuner card
For desktop PCs you can install an internal PC TV tuner card. Unlike USB device this is not readily removable and you can't take it out and use on another PC without opening your desktop. Some new desktops may have this as a built in feature or you can buy it seprately.
4. Using monitor with TV / Monitor feature
If you are planning to upgrade your computer monitor you can buy a monitor with built in TV tuner. You can work on it and you can use it as full functional TV when you are done. Cost wise this may be the costly solution but if you are looking for a second TV you can choose it. This solution save you space and make your room less cluttered.
