subject: Magazine Make: How Can It Help You [print this page]

Magazine Make is a popular "Do It Yourself" magazine by O'Reilly Media. This quarterly magazine contains projects that are related to robotics, computer, electronics, woodwork, metalwork and other relative fields. The target is to teach people some easy but interesting home based projects. Most of the tasks can be done with very cheap materials and are mostly used in daily life.

The magazine Make was introduced in January of 2005. According to the publisher, the magazine is a combination of a book and a magazine and tells itself as a mook. The subtitle of the journal is "Technology on Your Time". Beside the printed versions, it has online editions in Texterity and e-zine. These online versions are free to read for the existing subscribers of the Make magazine.

For doing the projects, you do not need to be an expert in electronics or computer; although having the basic knowledge is important. In the project description in the magazine, you will learn each of the steps in detail and you can follow them accordingly without much trouble.

You can also read the online version of the magazine in its own website, run by O'Reilly. In this site you can also read the total magazine by registering. If you do not have a regular registration with the printed version, you can make an online registration here. All the content in the magazine is also placed in the site, but in addition, you will get categorized contents.

For working with most of the projects, the user has to have some skills including basic electronics, mold making and welding. Also there is a regular feature which is known as MakeShift. This is actually a competition where the contenders have to make something from a limited number of tools and products.
