subject: Gallery Espace presents Karl Antao's show of recent sculptures [print this page] Born in 1966, Karl studied Applied Arts at the J.J. Institute, Mumbai, 1986-1991. He began his career as a graphic & set designer and visualiser with Lintas. He then proceeded on to a residency at the Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad, 1992-96. He was also a visiting faculty with the School of Architecture, Ahmedabad, 1997-2001, attending residencies, like Khoj, Bangalore, 2003 and Kerala International Sculpture Camp, 2001. He has several conducted workshops in metal casting, clay modeling, recycling waste and puppetry for students and under-privileged women and children, received junior Government fellowships. He has won several awards some of them being Indian Habitat Centre Award for Best Solo Show - 2005, Bendre- Husain Award India-1995, 1993 Bombay Art Society Award and Best Sculpture Award, All India Arts Society, Mumbai 1992. Some of his solo shows are LKA, Ahmedabad, Hutheesingh Visual Art Centre, Ahmedabad, 1999, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 2003, Gallery Espace, New Delhi, 2004, Unseen Truth', Gallery Sumukha, 2007. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions across India. He lives and works in Ahmedabad.
