subject: Where are John and Edward Now? [print this page]

Bizarre Irish sensations John and Edward, also known as Jedward, were all that anybody was talking about during 2009's run of the X Factor, but where are they now? It seemed inevitable at the time that Jedward would hang around for at least a while longer than they seem to have done, but the fascinating twosome appear to have vanished from the public eye.

This is interesting, though perhaps not too surprising. After all, John and Edward's act could hardly be said to be something with tremendous staying power. While the two certainly had the ability to hold the public's interest - with many viewers admitting to tuning into the X Factor every week solely to catch the latest antics of Jedward - they seem to have been able to do so for even less time than previously thought.

Then again, Jedward didn't have any lack of success at the beginning of their career. Thanks to the attention the pair garnered during the X Factor, with even political parties using them in their campaigns (though admittedly not in a flattering fashion), John and Edward could expect to enjoy at least some guaranteed interest following the end of the show. And they did. Their first single, Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) got to number two in the UK charts - a feat that seems quite unimaginable given the twins' talent - and their debut album, Planet Jedward, made it to position seventeen in the UK charts and an impressive number one in the Irish chart.

John and Edward then went on to go on their own tour, where they performed tracks from their album, which was made up entirely of cover songs. Their second single, All the Small Things which was originally penned by punk rock trio Blink 182, even got them a guest appearance on Big Brother, where they performed in the back garden as part of a Big Brother task where the housemates had to "ignore the obvious" - in short, ignore the performing pair that was racketing right under their noses!

While on tour, Edward fell several times and severely damaged his knee, meaning he had to perform the rest of the tour on crutches, but that didn't hold him back from continuing. Now that all that's over, however, what's in store for Jedward that will keep the couple less than quiet over coming years? Well, given how Universal Records offered them a three album deal when they signed them up, it looks like we could be seeing more Jedward singles on UK TV very soon!
