subject: Some Mistakes That Should Not Be Committed While Using Marketing Tools [print this page]

If used properly, various marketing tools can guarantee quick success regardless of the type of business for which these are being used. However, a number of individuals tend to commit mistakes that can be easily avoided and loss of money and time can be prevented. Some of such mistakes are discussed here.

1. Website: Most webmasters take the importance of web design pretty lightly. It has to be noted that the design of a website is what keeps the visitors interested. A website should have an appealing design coupled with some interesting images. Not more than three different types of text fonts should be used on a web page and the fonts should be similar on all pages of a website.

It is common to see website owners ignoring the statistics related to traffic on their websites. If these results are not studied, how will a webmaster know what is happening with his business?

2. Flyers: Flyers can be quite effective in making people know about a particular product, service or any other such stuff. However, in absence of an attractive flyer design, the effectiveness can get reduced quite easily. Information being provided on flyers needs to be organised properly; otherwise lack of focus can put off the reader. The images, colors and graphics need to be used at optimum levels so as to avoid looking too flashy and the flyer may become an eye-sore.

Absence of contrast between the background and text and images.

3. Email marketing: A large portion of the marketing emails end up either in trash bins or get filtered out by spam filters. Marketers should be extra cautious while sending emails or risk similar treatment for their emails as well. First of all, sending out too many mails should be avoided as it can earn the label of spam very easily. Secondly, the customers both existing and prospective ones need to be contacted with help of newsletters and other promotional stuff at regular intervals to avoid losing contact with them.

4. Corporate branding: The biggest mistake that an organization can make is to not make any effort to set up a corporate brand image. One has to stand apart from the crowd to get noticed by the masses. At the same time, a business owner should not promise more than what can be delivered. This can, in fact, work against the prospects of the business, if the owner is not able to provide the quality or scale as promised.
