subject: The Difference Between Targeted Traffic And Untargeted Traffic [print this page]

Advertising techniques are very much apparent over the internet. The onslaught of pop-ads is just one very good example of it. Because a lot of people use the internet, companies and marketers found this avenue very valuable in promoting their products.

It is common that companies and individuals are building websites for their merchandises and services. People nowadays seek everything to be done on the comforts of their home and office, over the internet. This is the very reason why there has been a concept such as online sales, promotion, and marketing.

These same concepts bring about another one, web traffic. Internet traffic is simply the amount of people that view your website and your marketing ad and promotions. Traffic is very much related to advertisement. There are two kinds of traffic, targeted traffic and untargeted traffic.

Targeted traffic means a website or an advertisement is presented relevant to what the internet user needs. Targeted traffic usually comes in the the form or search engines and online helps. Users of the internet asks for a specific thing, let's say computers, through an internet search provider. The provider would then present the user of countless of websites and articles all related to computers. In the internet vocabulary, this is called pulls.

Targeted traffic could also be affiliated advertisement to a website. Example, if one goes into a online banking website, advertisement about foreign exchange market, banking investment, and other money matters could be seen there. Targeted traffic aims to get through people who are possible customers of the said products or services.

Untargeted traffic, on the other hand, is otherwise. It doesn't require its contents to be related to anything the internet user needs. If you visit a regular website, you will be able to see advertising banners and pop-up ads about almost everything. At times, it is not even remotely associated to the website you are visiting. You could be visiting a tennis site with banners about online dating and gambling sites. Those two are not related, but they are there.

This kind of traffic is called push in the internet world. Advertisers and marketers of a certain product are promoting their services and goods to people, no matter who they may be. The do not require any connection of any sort to the user. They rely plainly on the hit and miss principle.

If targeted and untargeted traffic is compared, people prefer the targeted method because it is more inclined to what they needed most. In a certain research conducted, the read and click strategy performs much better than the banner and tile ads. And potential customers prefers search listings for as much as 40% over the same.

Although that is the case, untargeted ads yield favorable results too. People are getting aware of your products and services just by visiting a site or seeing your banner and pop-up ads. It's just that they won't necessary buy at that point. The untargeted ads' purpose is more in reminding customers that you are an existing company offering this type of good and service.

And when comes the time that the those same people are willing to buy or are looking for similar such, they can be reminded of you. That is why the use of both this traffic generator methods are advised. You won't seem to do without the other. Utilize both methods and you are in for an online success.
