The Cleveland Show was created in 2009 by Seth MacFarlane as a spin off the show The Family Guy
. It follows the character Cleveland Brown originally from The Family Guy as he moves from Quahog the town featured in Family Guy to Stoolbend, Virginia.
Characters of the show include Cleveland's wife Donna Tubbs, her teenage daughter Roberta Tubbs, and her five year old son Rallo Tubbs. Cleveland Junior also appears and has gained more weight then what he had when he was featured on Family Guy.
The show has picked up the loyal fan base from The Family guy and other Seth MacFarlane television shows such as American Dad! but has struggled to develop its own unique fan base. When it first aired the show was not expected to survive by reviewers including Tom Shales of the New York Post and Roberto Bianco of USA Today. TV.com rates the show as mediocre and the Internet Movie Database rates the show as low.
Even with the shows low ratings it has been syndicated nationally by Turner Broadcasting System's TBS and adult swim. Internationally it's available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Brazil as well as just recently Portugal. Most do not expect The Cleveland Show to last much longer due to its poor ratings. FOX is rumored to have decided if the show does not begin to take off this season that they will cancel their order halfway through the season and move to another show. Dedicated fans are not welcoming this and hope the The Cleveland Show as well as Seth MacFarlane's other shows such as American Dad! and Family Guy continue to grow in viewer numbers and there ratings increase.
The shows largest problem is conservative action groups have encouraged parents to not allow their children to watch Seth MacFarlane's shows including The Cleveland Show. One of these groups, The Parents Television Council has called the Cleveland Show a "soul sucking, infantile and crass" giving it a red light due to sexual and violent content as well as foul language.
