Need To Generate Electric To Power Small Appliances?

When out in the country in your caravan or motorhome you generally use a petrol generator

to create electricity, however these generators can be noisy and extremely harmful to the environment. As a far better alternative why not try a solar panel system?

These new systems collect energy made from the sun and convert it into electricity that you can use to power a number of items including televisions, air conditioning, toasters, kettles, alarms and other electrical appliances. The running costs of a generator can be costly in comparison to solar panels which, after the initial outlay, will generate free electricity for years to come. Using solar panel energy is beneficial in many ways and allows you to use electrical equipment whilst camping in the wilderness or even enjoying a day's fishing without any loud noises or petrol pollutions.

Portable solar panel systems are now available which are easy to install and require next to no maintenance once installed. If you understand the basics of electrical wiring then the step by step installation guides should be sufficient for you to install your own system. A portable solar system is relatively simple to understand. The solar panels themselves are made from Photovoltaic, or PV, cells. These cells have the natural tendency to generate an electrical current when exposed to sunlight. A 'controller' will use this electric current to charge a battery bank (the size of battery bank depends on how much energy you need to generate). This battery then converts the energy into electricity that you can use to power electrical appliances. Simple as that!

Should you be wanting enough power to run a caravan for example, then a group of solar panels are best mounted next to the caravan. In general two units of 12 volt deep cycle battery will be sufficient for one family throughout the night. For larger groups just expand the battery units. Smaller panels are now also available and can be used to power smaller electrical appliances such as fishing equipment and other camping equipment fairly efficiently. Again these are simple to install and are small enough to carry alongside your equipment.

So for a small investment you will be able to power appliances without the need of a noisy generator and costly petrol for many years and can take great pride in the fact that you are using the sun's natural energy to do so.
