The Woes Of Aviation Sector In India

The Indian airline users are grumbling and the increasing consumer complaints does not seem to get a halt

. On an average everyday out of 25k passengers flying 4 complain about the services. A total of 5% customers are dissatisfied everyday. Numbers of consumer forum are flooded with the travel agents and booking sites. The sector still does not have any established redressal machinery or regulation where the citizens could file a complaint. The data as unconfined by Directorate General of Civil Aviation affirms that in the month of May in excess of 1500 complaints were registered against domestic airlines for the scarcity in their services. The maximum complaints were received against Jet Airway followed by Air India the National service provider which received the second position and then there were other private players holding a command in the market likes Go Air, Kingfisher etc.

But this is only the one side of the picture as Indian aviation sector is too suffering. Recently Kingfisher planned to cancel up to 31 flights. Jet airway that dominates the Indian aviation sector has also planned to cut down 10 percent of its employees i.e. approximately 1,000 employees. Not only this the sector is witnessing continuous loss with Jet Airways second-quarter loss at about Rs 350 crore, Kingfishers and spice jet too are expected to witness losses. The cumulative amount of loss of these three companies is about 750 crores! Jet's market share has also slid down from a towering share of almost 49% in 2003 to about 25% this year.

Airline industry in India is weighed down with a number of problems. These comprise of lofty aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, mounting labor costs in addition to deficiency of skilled labor, quick fleet development, and ferrous price war amongst the players. But the major problem that has made to suffer all the competitors and a main reason behind the declining profit is infrastructure constraint. To increase customer satisfaction Airport infrastructure has to be improved swiftly this would also help Indian aviation industry to gain its lost customer and continue growth

Although the government seems to be understanding but a lot much has to be done. To help in the expansion of infrastructure the major airports of India-Mumbai and New Delhi-were privatized. In southern India also Two Greenfield airports are coming up at Bangalore and Hyderabad. Investments are torrential into approximately all aspects of the industry, including, pilot training, air cargo services and aircraft maintenance.

A period of 17 years have passed when Government of India opened the door to Indian skies for private players by revoking the Air Corporation Act of 1953 and thereby removing the domination of Air India and Indian Airlines and there are a lot more yet to be exploited in the sector.

The future of Indian aviation can be improved drastically if there are proper handlings of current grievances.
