Week 9: Buffalo Bills Small Favorites Over Ny Jets This Week
A talk of two cities. A tale of two teams.
It will be a classic physics lesson Sunday when the New York Jets pay a visit to Buffalo for a key AFC East showdown. One team is winless on the road, taking on a team that is unbeaten at home. One team is a solid defensive unit, while the other is a dynamic offensive team.
Physics defined: The immovable object versus the irresistible force. Will something give this week?
The Jets have won the last three meetings between these division rivals, and five of the last six games.
New York Jets
The Jets are Jekyll and Hyde. They improved to 4-0 at home with a 27-21 win over San Diego prior to their bye week, but the team is 0-3 on the road, giving up at least 30 points in each game.
The Jets rank seventh in the league in passing defense (197 yards per game) and 25th in rushing defense (127 ypg). The unit has recorded 18 sacks and forced 16 turnovers, with two interceptions returned for touchdowns (David Harris and Darrelle Revis).
Eric Smith leads the team with 44 tackles, adding 1.5 sacks and an INT. Calvin Pace and Aaron Maybin both have three sacks, Revis has four INTs, Maybin has three forced fumbles and Sione Pouha has two recoveries.
The Jets rank 22nd in the league in passing offense (208 ypg) and 28th in rushing (92 ypg). Mark Sanchez has completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,545 yards and 12 TDs, along with six INTs. He has been sacked 17 times.
Dustin Keller (25 catches), Santonio Holmes (22) and LaDainian Tomlinson (20) have combined for 67 receptions for 943 yards and six TDs.
Shonn Greene leads the run game with 426 yards and two scores (3.8 yards per carry).
Joe McKnight averages 40 yards per kickoff return, including an 107-yarder for a TD. Nick Folk has made all 30 of his scoring kicks this year (10-10 FG, 20-20 PAT), with a long of 50 yards.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills improved to 4-0 at home last week with a 23-0 victory over Washington, to take over first place in the AFC East. Buffalos two losses were both by three points (23-20 at Cincinnati, 27-24 at New York Giants). Four games have been decided by exactly three points, with a fifth decided by seven.
Buffalo has one of the more lethal offenses in the league, ranking fifth in the league in rushing (141 ypg) and 13th in passing (240 ypg). Fred Jackson leads the running game with 721 yards and six TDs (5.5 ypc).
Ryan Fitzpatrick has completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,739 yards and 14 TDs, with seven INTs. His offensive line has allowed just nine sacks.
Steve Johnson is the top target with 39 catches for 439 yards and four TDS, while David Nelson adds 31 grabs for 366 yards and two scores.
The Bills defense ranks 20th against the run (120 ypg) and 24th against the pass (266 ypg),, recording 13 sacks and forcing 18 turnoversthree of which were interceptions returned for TDs (Nick Barnett, Bryan Scott and Drayton Florence).
George Wilson has a team-best 66 tackles, adding four interceptions and one forced fumble. Marcell Dareus has 3.5 sacks and Chris White has two forced fumbles.
