0844 Numbers - Beyond 0870 Regulation
With impending regulatory changes about to impact upon 0870 and 0871 number ranges
, many businesses are now migrating to 0844 numbers.
There are a number of reasons for this move:
* The 0844 range does not fall under review by the UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom in the foreseeable future, meaning that organisations will not need to re-print stationery, vehicle livery and other marketing material as a consequence of regulator-enforced number changes.
* Unlike 0870 numbers, which will be charged at geographic call rates from 1st February 2008 - unless a free-to-caller, price-specific announcement is made - 0844 calls provide sufficient margin for operators like Numberstore (Zimo Communications Ltd) to offer free call management services to a wide range of public and private sector organisations.
* Although "local rate" is a misnomer these days, it is a term with which 0845 numbers have become synonymous. Similarly, 0844 numbers are often described as "lo call" numbers, because they are charged at a maximum of 5p per minute from a BT landline (daytime, evening and weekend including VAT). The low cost of calling
0800 Numbers helps increase inbound call volumes.
* As a result of continued uncertainty around 0870 regulation (Ofcom is currently mediating a dispute between BT and 31 Communication Providers) Zimo is providing its customers with free
0845 Numbers to replace their existing
0871 Numbers. The company is also offering a free changed number announcement (CNA) to any business wishing to take up its Numberstore service.
* Subject to inbound call volumes, it is possible to earn revenue from calls received on your 0844 number. If your monthly inbound call durations exceed 100,000 minutes, you would be advised to speak with your 0844 number provider to establish whether call revenue share (CRS) is available on your number.
* A wide range of call management services and other features can be provided with your 0844 number including (but not limited to):
o Inbound call statistics - allowing you to analyse in great detail the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns since these will include the callers' numbers, date, time and duration of calls.
o Call recording - for staff training and monitoring purposes.
o Location based routing - direct calls from certain area codes, counties, regions or countries to different destinations automatically.
o Call queuing - alleviate the need for expensive and maintenance-intensive hardware PBX equipment. Operators like Numberstore can efficiently queue calls to your 0844 number on their network.
o Call hunt groups - deliver calls simultaneously or sequentially to a variety of destinations including landline, mobile, international destinations, fax and voice mailboxes.
o Call menu systems - "Press 1 for sales, 2 for support, etc." Build a sophisticated menu system online with custom voice prompts to efficiently handle calls to your 0844 number.
o Voice to email - should you be unable to take calls, allow your callers to leave a message on your 0844 number which is instantly delivered to an online mailbox and as a .WAV attachment to any email address you choose.
o Fax to email - faxes may be delivered to an online mailbox or directly to a number of pre-defined email addresses.
