1 Trick To Make Stopping Nail Biting Easier
One of the key factors when trying to stop nail biting is to have a high amount of motivation
. Because if you don't have the right reasons to make the change, you will inevitably find yourself trying one technique after another without really getting anywhere. Unless you have some powerful motivators that push you towards your goal, chance are you will be discouraged along the way.
Without compelling reasons, it's just too easy to say: "Well, maybe this change thing wasn't such a good idea" or "maybe I should start another time". You won't be able to make it through the tough times and stop too early.
It's similar to driving up a mountain with a vehicle. If there are only a few drops in your tank, you may not make it all the way to the top and start rolling backwards instead.
Many nail biters make the mistake of focusing on the problem itself, which typically leads to more of the same. But because you are constantly thinking about what you don't want, you are providing your brain with a powerful mental energy that leads to you inevitably ending up with what you don't want.
The reason behind it is that our brain can't interpret words like no, stop or never again. And if you are constantly telling yourself "I want to stop nail biting", you are constantly playing an inner movie that shows you gnawing on your nails. And all your mind hears is "Nail biting, nail biting, nail biting".
So if you want to be able to quit nail biting in the fastest manner possible, you need to know exactly why you are wiling to make the change. So ask yourself these questions:
What are the exact reasons why you want to get rid of this stubborn habit? Or is it because you want to be more attractive to your partner? Does it simply not comply with the image you have of yourself? Do you want to stop because the habit takes your valuable time?
You need to get very clear about why you want to stop biting your nails.
You can also take a personal inventory of all the negative effects that the behavior has created so far. When and where did you experience embarrassment, shame and guilt? Did someone make fun of your nails? Were you disturbed by the appearance of your nails when doing a certain activity?
Write down at least five reasons why you are willing to make the change. This way it will sink down deeper in your brain and you will be more committed to making the change.
This simple tip will help you get the outcome that you want even faster.
In conclusion: You need to have a powerful why, that will in fact make it easier to stick to your resolution to stop biting nails.
