, most of us still have a favorite track. One where we spend more time than we do playing other tracks. This is a mixed blessing.

If you're getting stale, it could be because you're spending too much time handicapping one track. I know that's the opposite of the advice you get from most handicapping experts, but stay with me.

If you go to one track all the time, you get to where you don't really notice it. It's like a marriage that's gotten so predictable and comfortable that you don't need to put any work into it any more. You just keep doing the same thing and using the same methods without even thinking about it.

Of course, we all know that sometimes that doesn't work with marriages any more than it works at the dog track. How many couples do you know where all of a sudden, one of them decides they're bored and tell their spouse that a marriage "isn't working" after thirty years?

It's that way at the greyhound track too. If you go to the same one and handicap the same dogs, the same way, you get stale and it gets boring. You find yourself just going through the motions and not trying anything new. Why should you?

Well, one reason you should is when the old methods you're using don't make you as much money as you want to make. If you're making pocket change you need to think about whether what you're doing is what you want to be doing.

Let's face it. There's a lot of money at the dog track and there's no sense in going if you're not going to try to get your share. If you're getting stale, you need to freshen up your handicapping skills, wake up and smell the money!

Shake off your old habits and pick up some new ideas and use them to cash tickets. Don't walk around the old familiar track in your usual daze. Try a new track. Get a new system of handicapping. Find some new people to talk to about handicapping and life in general.
