11 Pressure Washer Safety Tips

Pressure washing used to be something that only a professional could do

. Now, with the advent of consumer-grade, user-friendly pressure washers, anybody can do it. But, any time you handle equipment, its important that you follow these safety tips.

1)Never start your gasoline-powered pressure washer without checking the gas or fuel tank first. Make sure fuel isnt empty or dried up. You dont want to ruin your equipment by attempting to start it without checking first. If your washer has an oil alert system, youll be notified if your fuel source is low.

2) Never attempt to use a gasoline-powered pressure washer indoors. You must only use a gas-powered pressure washer outdoors. The carbon monoxide fumes from using indoors can be deadly. Electric pressure washers can be used indoors, however, which makes them a popular choice among homeowners.

3)Do not smoke cigarettes or have any open flames near your gasoline-powered pressure washer as this can be deadly.

4)Always wear closed-toed, steel toed safety boots, long pants, gloves, and safety goggles to protect your eyes. No flip flops whatsoever.

5)Never point the wand or nozzle at people. The stream of water is very, very powerful and can seriously injure or even kill someone, including yourself. Keep children and animals far away.

6)Use the proper spray nozzle as it relates to the cleaning job. The nozzles operate by a color system and will indicate the angle your washing. White offers the widest spray angle. Youll only want to move up and change colors if you want a more narrow angle.

7)Always be sure nearby electrical outlets are covered and sealed (waterproof) prior to pressure cleaning.

8)Only use chemicals and detergents that are specified by your owners manual. Failure to use the proper cleaning solution can seriously damage your pressure washer.

9)Do not stand on a latter when pressure washing. Always stand on the ground. Use an extension pole if you need to reach somewhere high, such as a rooftop or a high area of a wall.

10)Be very careful not to get your electrical pressure washer cord wet. Always keep the cord dry and away from liquids, including your cleaning solution.
