2012 meteor earth

There is much controversy surrounding the topic of 2012 meteor earth of late so I've decided to write this to point out the very real possibilities of it, Yes I can admit it's a scary concept for anyone to contemplate but with the amount of understanding we have about our solar system and the universe abroad I do believe its time people started to take the 2012 meteor earth topic seriously.

Every year meteors enter our solar system, some large, some small and whilst It is true that many of them are not on the correct trajectory to collide with earth and no major meteors have as of yet hit the planet causing mass devastation we must not rule out the possibility that it could potentially happen in our near future in 2012.

The smoking gun of the 2012 meteor earth debate can of course be seen in our ancient past, we are all well aware of the fate of the dinosaurs and the dramatic planetary changes that were caused by the meteorite that hit the planet back in that age, so with what we know of these meteors, combined with other sources such as the ancient Mayan prophecies why do people still deny its plausibility.

In recent history over the past few years we have had several "near misses" of meteors, admittedly none were of apocalyptic proportions however if any one of these meteors had of impacted onto a densely populated area the resulting affect would have been catastrophic devastation for all those in the targeted areas.

Astronomers working for NASA track and catalogue dozens of rouge meteorites that enter our solar system every year, most of them either pass through our solar system or are consumed by gas giants such as Jupiter, however if we use the simple powers of the laws of probability alone whilst keeping in mind that we have been impacted by major meteors in the past it really is honestly just a matter of time before we will once again see a major collision with earth.

Even if we were not to be directly hit by the Meteor, scientists have discovered that if a large meteorite was to pass at a close enough distance to our planet the affects of the chemicals and micro particulates that would fall into our atmosphere could cause massive temporary changes in our weather patterns and climate.

Now this particular notion is interesting because in the Mayan civilizations prophecies concerning the year 2012 they mention that the world would be brought to an end not by the impact of a meteor but rather by worldwide natural disasters, specifically unrelenting rain and mass flooding, could something like this be caused by a near miss from a large meteor? Is this the reality of the 2012 meteor earth topic?

Well of course it is a high possibility, what I have always found most concerning is that although NASA and other worldwide space agencies are always watching the heavens, we are of course always limited to what we can see due to the sheer nature of our current technology, you have to know what you're looking for in order to find it, and it is perfectly possible for a large meteorite that is big enough to cause dramatic damages to our planet to enter to solar system and yet also possible to be so small for us not to realize it until the 11th hour.
