3 Modern Touches For Your Home
How does one add creative elements to their home in a tasteful way
? Most people suggest to be sparing. A hint here and splash of colour there and you've got all the personality your home could possibly need. I agree with that completely, but I also think that a house needs an owner with a tasteful eye, because sparing or not, modern pieces still need to be nice and well suited to their surroundings.
Some interesting examples include:
1. Sleek dressers featuring colourful silk-screened designs:
One of my favourite home and design blogs is called Fresh Home. They feature modern and architecturally innovative designs from all over the world. They also feature avant-garde furniture designs. Today I saw that they posted a piece on modern baroque-inspired dressers from the Italian company Seletti. The furniture collection is both cheerful and stylish and come in prints ranging from polkadots to houndstooth. Putting one of these in your bedroom would add that perfect touch of modernity and personality your room needs.
2. Coffee table bases:
Glass coffee tables already have a modern look and feel to them, but it is possible to make them even cooler. How? By choosing a unique base for them. Also on Fresh Home this week was a featured piece on a glass table that had an old plane engine as its base. The engine is round and silver and belonged to a US army Boeing-Stearman PT-13. It is a gorgeous piece that screams originality, strength and industrialisation in all the right ways.
3. Chairs and lights:
The easiest way to add a touch of modernity to your home is by investing in some interesting chairs and lighting fixtures. Hard, plastic chairs around a light marble table and sculptural hanging light fixtures are all that a room needs to get that certain edge so many home owners are after. Furniture likes this works especially well in modern flats with big windows and lots of natural light. What's even better is that they can be combined with old wood, toile and other, more traditional home decorations.
Those looking for a touch of modernity to add to their homes presumably already have the classic items. Of course, if you're looking to incorporate some flair, you'll need to have the right pieces to go with it. That might be a solid chestnut table, dark wood kitchen cupboards or outdoor wicker furniture if it's a new garden set-up you're after.
