3 Steps I Take When I Fix My Computer, And How You Can Benefit?

Whenever I have to fix my computer, the first thing I do is to defragment it to ensure

that there are at least no problems as far as computer speed is concerned from the part of the system itself, barring possible infection from viruses and malware. Unfortunately however, the process is very long, and the more disk size you have, the longer it would take. Here are 5 time-tested tips to speed up the process of disk defragmentation.

Turn off screensaver

Before starting the defragmenting process, make sure that your screen savers are disabled, failing which the defragment process will continue restarting again and again on its own. However, as you might know, it's slightly irritating to manually turn them off every time, so here's how you can do it permanently. At the start menu, click on run, and enter regedit to open the registry of your PC., and locate this file "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/windows/CurrentVersion/Applets", and check for a key named 'defrag'. If it is not present, create a new key named 'defrag', and a primary key named 'settings', setting the latter's value data as 'yes'. This will turn off screen savers automatically whenever the defragment process is started.

Current applications

Whenever I start to fix my computer, the number one issue I face is that I forget to close the running applications, which slows down the speed considerably. Make sure that you do not repeat the same mistake; otherwise this can even lead to your computer freezing.

Location of temp folder

If you are an avid surfer of the internet, there would be a whole lot of temporary files that would be stored on your PC, most probably in the folder C:/windows/Temporary Internet Files. It is very important to change the location these files, as they only increase the job of your computer since this adds up to the fragments. To change the location of this folder, go and create a folder named Temporary internet files on the hard drive you choose as location, and go to start, click on control panel, internet options and move folder. Select the new folder you have created.

These are some of the basic steps I take to fix my computer. I hope that these would be beneficial to you.
