3 Things To Check When Buying Your First Sports Car
Whether you just fancy a change from your usual cars or you've managed to save up
enough money to purchase the high end car you want, there are 3 points that everyone should keep in mind when buying their very first sports car.
1. Where and how has the car been used in the past? - When people are buying their first sports car, especially those who look at aesthetics primarily or who look at the manufacturer's badge first and foremost, they often overlook the more unusual or in-depth questions that delve into the car's history.
Unfortunately, it's these questions that should be high upon your list of things to check first, as no matter how good a car may look or how popular you believe it would make you if you owned it, if it's got a poor history, chances are it's going to cause you problems.
Some car owners buy sports cars purely for the fact that they enjoy the car and have an extremely keen and in-depth interest in them. They'll walk into Ferrari dealers, choose their favourite model, own it for a few months and then sell it on, after only driving it around the local area and ensuring it gets the highest level of care possible. Making for fantastic second hand cars, due to the fact they've been so well looked after, it's these types of cars that you ideally want to be looking for.
Other sports car owners, however, will walk into Ferrari dealers, choose their favourite car, drive it everywhere and use it on rally days.
Whilst there is nothing wrong with this in general and the owners are likely to take care of them to ensure they have the best performing car possible, if the car is constantly being pushed to its limits, it's likely that it's eventually going to need some work doing to it and constant tweaking to keep it in top condition.
2. How much repair work is needed? - Sometimes, you might be lucky and the car will be in perfect condition, not requiring any work what so ever.
This is, unfortunately, very rare and it's likely that the sports car you buy will need at least some work doing to it, whether it's something relatively small such as touching up paint where the car has been scratched or it could be something larger - especially if the car has been used for racing or pushed to its limits regularly - such as a part or even full engine reconstruction.
3. What are the additional regular costs? - So you know how much the car is going to cost you to buy, as well as roughly how much the repair costs are going to be, but have you considered the regular costs?
Car insurance is likely to be of the most expensive - Group 20 - kind if it's a luxury sports car and annual service bills can cost hundreds, if not thousands of pounds.
And then you've got to keep in mind the cost of parts, such as tyres, which can cost in excess of 1,000 pounds for a set of 4 for some of the more luxury and high performing sports cars.
