3 Tips To Keep Your Pool Filtration System In Good Shape
Everyone wants to have a clean, sparkling pool beckoning from the backyard
, or a perfectly pure hot tub to bring your friends into. But the upkeep on these little luxuries can be taxing. Do you wonder how to keep costs down in your pool or spa maintenance without compromising the clarity of the water? Do you know how long you can go before you change your pool filter cartridge, or do you just change it monthly without thinking about it? Do you want to learn how you can prolong the life of your Hayward pool filter cartridge by backwashing your pool filter yourself with professional results? Here are tips on how to keep your pool filtration system in good shape (without spending a lot of money).
1-First, make sure you keep your pool covered when it's not in use. This is such a simple step, but it goes a long way in preventing leaves and debris from falling into the water and clogging your filtration system. You should have a winter pool cover (a heavy weight cover that's hard topped) as well as a lightweight summertime pool cover. I've used a bubble pool cover in the summer to keep leaves out of my pool with great results. Since our backyard was a forest of deciduous trees, there were always tons of leaves (and all those pesky Texas bugs) dropping into the pool daily. We cut our pool upkeep in half by simply covering up the pool with a lightweight bubble wrap pool cover every day after we got out of the pool.
2-Change your pool filter cartridge every season. If you use your pool for more than just the summer season (if you're lucky enough to live in Florida or Arizona), then you'll need to change it once every season that you use it (spring, fall, etc.). If you seldom use your pool (such as if it's in a guest home), and if you keep your swimming pool covered almost all the time, you won't need to change the pool filter cartridge as often.
3-Buy a filter cartridge cleaner and spray down your filter cartridge every month or so. You can find these handy devices for about $25 at most pool supply stores, and they really enhance the effectiveness of your pool filter. It's almost like getting a new filter every month! Using a hose with a high-pressure attachment isn't recommended for cleaning your pool filter cartridge since it can damage the cartridge, and you'll end up having to replace it.
