3 Urgent Factors To Consider When Selling Websites
Selling websites for profit has become quite the lucrative market
. With many people still riding off the success of the life that the 30 Day Challenge breathed back into this market in 2009, there has never been more people who are buying than right now.
However, every single day, I do see people who are still struggling to get a decent dollar amount for the websites that they are selling. As I assess these websites that I find, I generally come across three factors that influence the low prices that these websites are receiving in the auctions. Here are the top 3 things that I believe that every single website flipper should consider before selling a website.
Consider Your Niche
Some markets just do not respond well to monetization. Of couse, if you are after the ever illusive six figure sale, chances are that if your website is going to be hard to monetize, not many people will want to place a bid for the site. The key is to place your website within a niche that is both a combination of winnable, and commercial.
However, the thing that needs to be considered is how winnable the niche is. Sure, someone who is prepared to pay six figures for a website is going to be in a better position to dominate in a highly competitive niche, however, not as many people are going to want to bid due to the work involved. The key is to make the site as attractive as possible for all buyers, as to increase bid numbers. People don't automatically bid large numbers on an auction, they only outbid each other, so if the niche is good, if it is easy to monetize, then you are going to attract more bids from the start.
Consider Your Website Age
This is the downfall of most auctions that I get the chance to assess. It is all to common that I will see a website that has sold for very little with claims of massive income, but the website is only a month old. Truth of the matter is simple. Potential can never be assessed accurately from a month of solid income. Potential is only ever proven with age.
Not only that, but the age of a domain will always carry more weight in Google, meaning that it will be seen as more relevant, and receive better treatment in the search engine results.
Consider Consistency Of Income
A website that consistently earns good money over a lengthy period of time will always result in much higher bids when it comes to auction. If your website earned $10,000 in its first month, and a few dollars here and there for the next five months, as much as the total earnings for those six months are going to sound good, the consistency just is not there. Consider how much the buyer is going to earn easily after the sale of the website, as that is always going to be what the website is worth to a buyer.
Now, I could ramble on for hours on many of the aspects that will influence how well a website will perform at auction, however, the main keys are in three elements. Age, consistency, and niche selection. If you simply follow the three guidelines that I set above, you are going to be setting yourself up for some great improvements in your end price.
