With Windows 7 becoming more and more popular every day, it's no wonder that a lot of people are trying to find out ways to speed it up. This is important, because a slow PC can become incredibly annoying and frustrating... making it vital that you are able to boost its performance. Luckily, there are 3 easy ways to do that: Uninstall Unwanted Programs It's easy to fall into the trap of installing many different programs on your Windows PC, but the reality is that the more applications you install, the slower your PC will run. This is for two reasons - the first is that many programs actually run 'in the background' of Windows, meaning that they are running even through you aren't using them or seeing them. This means that they eat up system resources such as CPU power and MEMORY usage for no reason at all. Some of the biggest culprits of this problem are the Instant Messaging applications, such as Skype and AIM. To remove the programs you don't want, you just need to click on START > CONTROL PANEL > UNINSTALL PROGRAMS. This will allow you to remove the programs you don't want / need any more. Defragment Your Hard Drive Many people don't know about this, but it can be one of the most beneficial ways to boost PC performance. Every time you save a file to your hard drive, your computer automatically allocates a "space" on that drive, like a book has in a library. This gives your PC a reference for the file, allowing it to be found quickly. However, because there are many files being saved every day, there is often some confusion about where these files should be saved, and Windows ends up breaking them up and "fragmenting" them. This causes your system to get confused and take longer to read the files again, slowing it down. To fix this, just click on START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK DEFRAGMENTER and then proceed to clean your hard drives. This will speed up your PC a lot. Clean Out The Registry One of the biggest causes of a slow system is a part called the 'registry'. This is a big database which stores all the settings and options for Windows, allowing your system to remember and recall a number of different options such as your desktop wallpaper and even your latest emails. However, this database is constantly becoming corrupt and damaged, making Windows run slower as it struggles to read the settings it needs to keep your system running as quickly and smoothly as possible. This is a major issue which Windows cannot fix itself, but luckily, there are tools called "Registry Cleaners" which do it for you. These tools are downloaded from the Internet and work by cleaning out all the issues in the registry, allowing your system to speed up. About the Author:
