4 Basic Steps On How To Train A Wild Horse

Horse training or training any animals for that matter is a very tedious task

. It is not easy. Patience as well as a knack for doing the job is needed. One should grasp the correct approach in horse training to become efficient and gain positive results.

Styles and techniques on horse training vary. The approach depends on the school, academy or club which supervises the training. Although this is the case, the basic principles and aims of horse training are quite similar.

Here are just some of the basic step on how to train a wild horse which can be used during training:

1. Assess the temperament of the horse.


Horses, like humans are different. Some are timid while others are more aggressive and thus difficult to get along with and train. The handler must observe the habits of the horses. This step can give the handler an idea on how to handle the animal.

2. Impose strict rules on proper behavior during ground training.

The trainer should establish a clear demarcation line between proper and improper behavior of the horse. Imposing strict rules is important to make the horse respectful and obedient. A disciplined and properly behaved horse is less likely to endanger its handler.

3. Punish the horse when the need arises.

Punishment is a tool to correct bad behavior. It also conditions the horse to avoid mistakes. But a trainer should limit the gravity of punishment to avoid giving the horse trauma. Some forms of light punishment can be imposed using signals such as an angry or raised voice.

4. Give rewards after a good and promising performance.

To help encourage the horse maintain its good performance, rewards should likewise be given. Providing snacks such as carrot sticks or patting the horse at the back are some of the ways to give rewards.

There are other things which the trainer can do in order to gain positive results during training. Aside from knowing which technique is best, patience and love for horses are the sure fire way to succeed in training a wild horse
