4 Fantastic Exercises To Burn Calories At Christmas

As the year draws to a close and Christmas approaches you are probably being a little less strict with your diet

. Perhaps you are letting your hair down and having a few festive drinks? Maybe you have treated yourself to a mince pie or two? Unfortunately, relaxing your diet in this way means that you will consume extra calories. On the flip side, you can prevent these additional calories from expanding your waistline by getting active. In this article I am going to be providing you with four fantastic exercises to burn calories at Christmas and minimise the impact of these festive treats.

1) CIRCUIT TRAINING:- Circuit training is a brilliant way to burn calories at Christmas whilst also mixing up your existing exercise routine. You can do circuits consisting of bodyweight exercises (such as chin ups, press ups, sit ups), cardiovascular exercises (such as cycling, jogging and skipping), resistance training exercises (such as bicep curls, chest presses and tricep extensions) or a combination of all the above. Just 12 minutes of circuit training uses up 100 calories whilst an hour long session blasts through a significant 500 calories. That can compensate for drinking three glasses of Bailey's Irish Cream or eating a large portion of Christmas pudding.

2) RUNNING:- Running is one of the best ways to burn calories at Christmas. It can also help fight various diseases, strengthen your bones and muscles and help you sleep. If it is too cold and icy to run outside then you can go running on a treadmill at the gym instead. Running at 10 miles per hour (mph) for just six minutes blasts through an impressive 100 calories. That means a 30 minute run will use up 500 calories, the equivalent of two glasses of Jack Daniels and Coke or two bars of chocolate.

3) SKIPPING:- Skipping is a simple, versatile exercise that can be performed both inside and outside. All you need is a rope and you are good to go which makes it a very efficient way to burn calories at Christmas. Just eight minutes of rapid skipping uses up 100 calories whilst skipping rapidly for a full hour blasts through 750 calories. This can make up for drinking three pints of Stella Artois or eating four mince pies.

4) WALKING:- If you want to burn calories at Christmas but the above exercises seem too intense, walking could be right up your street. Whilst it uses up fewer calories than the other exercises listed, you can still blast through 240 calories by walking for one hour. That can compensate for drinking one bottle of WKD or eating four mini sausage rolls.

SUMMARY

Sticking to a strict diet regime all year round is nearly impossible. This is especially true around Christmas when festive treats are on offer everywhere you look. However, if you compensate for any gaps in your diet with the exercises in this article, the extra calories you consume should have a minimal impact.
