Fake a Depth of Field

You have seen pictures that have blurry backgrounds, haven't you? These photos have a small depth of field, so why not try faking it? First tip we have is to fake a small depth of field. How do we do this? Duplicate your background layer. After doing so, select the Gaussian Blur from the menu item, and apply it to the duplicate layer. The value of pixels depends on your shot, but it is also preferable to make the value three or six pixels. Third step is to add a layer mask to the duplicate layer in Reveal All mode. After that, you should set the foreground and background colors to their defaults. You should be painting in black now. This is to hide the duplicate layer when you paint on its layer mask. Lastly, use a brush to paint out the mask where you want the image to be sharp.

Equalize The Contrast

The next among these greatest Photoshop tips is to equalize the contrast. You would want everything to be perfect on that picture, right? First, duplicate your background layer and set its blending mode to "overlay". Make sure that the opacity is 75 %. Second, "desaturate" the contrast mask. Next, you have to invert the contrast mask layer. After that, blur the contrast mask layer by choosing Gaussian Blur from the menu. The value should depend on your shot. Mix and match. Remove the red-eye. Admit it, you hate it. There are probably more tips on this, but the easiest way is to select the area of red-eye with the elliptical marquee tool. Choose expand from the menu and increase the size of the selection by two pixels. Select feather from the menu, and set its radius to two pixels again. From the menu again, select Hue/Saturation, and set the saturation to -100, lightness to -75. That oily look really sucks. Thankfully, there is a way to remove that with Photoshop tips.

Reduce Flash Glare

The next tip is to reduce the flash glare. First, select the eye-dropper tool to select the skin tone of the subject. Create a new layer, an empty one, and set its blending mode to Darken, with opacity at 50%. Lastly, use a soft-edged brush to paint the skin tone. Your aim, when doing this, is to remove that oily look, so just do that and you're on your way to becoming a hero in the subject's eyes.

Burn and Dodge

Last tip is to burn and dodge with an overlay-neutral fill. Firstly, create a new layer. Change its mode to Overlay, and opacity to 25%. Next, set the foreground and background colors to the default, and lastly, select a soft-edged brush of a size appropriate to the area you are working on. Adjust the opacity.
