4 Reasons Why Plants Wilt
There are several challenges you need to face when growing
, particularly when you have an indoor garden because your plants are entirely dependent on what you provide them. One of these obstacles is wilting.
The following are some of the reasons why plants wilt and some measures to control or avoid them.
1. The lack of water supply is the most usual reason why plants wilt. The obvious measure to this is to water the plants. But if you are into hydroponic systems, inspect water supply regularly to avoid such problem. Remember that plants in a container or pot dry out quicker than those planted in the open ground. In extreme cases of wilting, soak your potted plants in a bucket of water until air bubbles disappear.
2. Overwatering can also be a reason why plants wilt. This just means that too much or too little of everything is harmful for your plants. Do not overwater especially when you are maintaining an indoor garden. Take note that evaporation indoors is lower, so give your indoor plants less water than what outdoor plants must receive. Otherwise the roots of your plants will begin to struggle as they sit on damp soil longer than necessary.
3. Your plants can also wither when there is too much or too little sunlight. Some plants naturally love the shade more than sunlight; so if you grow them in a sunny condition, they will definitely wither. The same will occur when you put a sun-loving plant on a shady place. If you are using hydroponic systems, make sure you only give your plants the appropriate artificial light requirement.
4. Disease is another cause of withering and maybe the hardest one to regulate. Your plants may also get infected if they acquire a disease. There are a number of diseases that cause wilt; and one of which is the Fusarium caused by fungi. Using fungicide is an effective way to control this type of problem. Be very careful in using such product. Make sure you only use based on the directions given. The roots of your plants may be starting to rot or they lack potassium that is why they are wilting. Consider using wilt guard in solving this problem. But it is always ideal to prevent than to cure. So to keep plants de-stressed and lively at all times, use wilt guard regularly or as directed.
