4 Simple Ways To Make Exercise Fun
If you're trying to lose weight and finding it hard to regularly attend any of the gyms in London
, it's likely to be because you're struggling to stay motivated due to not enjoying working out.
Gyms in London - or anywhere else in the country - are not built for entertainment purposes and therefore unless you're dedicated to fitness, you're going to find working out more of a chore than anything else.
However, there are some steps you can take to ensure that exercise is as fun as it can possibly be and the following 4 points are all great examples.
1. Go with a friend - as human beings, we naturally want to compete. Some people are a lot more competitive than others, but there'll be something that everyone wants to compete over.
By going to the gym and working out at the same time as a friend, you'll find that you push yourself that little bit harder to try and outdo them. It may mean doing one more repetition or an extra few seconds on the treadmill, but it makes the whole exercise environment a lot more enjoyable.
2. Take up classes - just because you need to work out doesn't mean that you have to run for hours or try to bench press your own bodyweight. If you want to get fit and healthy but don't fancy working out in the conventional sense, take a look at the classes that a lot of gyms have to offer.
From boxercise and salsasize (incorporating boxing and salsa dancing into an exercise routine) to aqua aerobics (working out in water in a group with an instructor, it has a lot of benefits, particularly as your body has to work harder against the water), there will often be at least half a dozen regular classes at any large gym.
3. Use your MP3 player - if you're running on a treadmill and you're not enjoying it, you can get into the habit of checking out the clock every few seconds, which makes time seem to go a lot slower.
Instead, put on your MP3 player and make a playlist of five of your favourite songs. With each song being roughly 3 and a half minutes long, that's 17 minutes and 30 seconds that will pass before you even know it.
4. Give yourself a reward - just because you're on a weight loss programme doesn't mean you can't treat yourself now and again and one of the best ways to make your time at the gym more enjoyable is to know you've got a treat waiting for you at home.
If you're being particularly healthy, then this treat could be a bowl full of your favourite fruit, topped with low fat natural yoghurt and honey.
If you're being a little less healthy, however, you could opt for an alcoholic drink - a gin and diet tonic has around 60 calories in. Just make sure you stay away from anything that isn't a clear spirit and remember to only use diet mixers.
