2.Practice protected sex. This is about using condoms. Granted, genital warts are not spread by interchange of bodily fluids, like most other conditions for which condoms are used in protection. Yet when all is said and done, use of the condom does reduce the surface area of the skin under contact, thereby reducing the chances of ending up with the genital warts significantly. As mentioned, in the case of genital warts, condoms only reduce chances of infection, they don't offer (or purport to offer) foolproof protection. But they are definitely better than nothing, in this regard. And by using them, you are protecting yourself from a host of other conditions as well.
3.Avoid sharing personal effects, like towels and bath clothes. As mentioned, genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus, which is spread by skin contact. What is more, the virus responsible for causing these viruses is one that can survive outside the body for considerable periods of time, on items like towels used by infected people. It is therefore in your best interests to avoid sharing personal effects like those, if you want to stay safe from genital warts.
4.Maintain high standards of personal hygiene. Granted, genital warts are not caused by hygiene failure: you could maintain the highest standards of hygiene, and still end up with the infection. Yet as with all diseases caused by micro-organisms, maintaining high standards of hygiene can reduce the chances of your ending up with genital warts considerably. This is about creating an inhospitable environment for the virus to thrive in.
