49ers fire coordinator Jimmy Raye

Quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson was promoted to lead playcaller

The 0-3 49ers, a popular preseason pick to win the NFC West, were routed in Kansas City on Sunday, scoring just 10 points.

The 49ers are currently 20th in total offense, but their 12.7 points-per-game average is 31st in the NFL -- better than only the 0-3 Carolina Panthers. San Francisco also has a minus-5 turnover ratio this mlb jerseys season.

Raye and coach Mike Singletary often disagreed on how to get the offense rolling. Quarterback Alex Smith has been inconsistent, as have the receivers, with only running back Frank Gore a steady contributor.

After the 49ers' 31-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the opener, Raye took the blame for the team's problems on offense.

"I bear all the responsibility for the way we operate on offense," Raye said then. "I'm the leader. It's my watch."

Raye joined the 49ers in early 2009, replacing Mike Martz, who Singletary fired in his first major act after getting the permanent NFLjerseyjob running the club.

During more than three decades of NFL coaching experience, Raye has been a coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders, where he also was the team's assistant head coach in 2004-05 under Norv Turner. Raye also spent three seasons as the New York Jets' running backs coach under former coach Eric Mangini.
