5 Fishing Walleye Tips

, you should know 5 walleye fishing tips that can help you land the trophy fish or at least a walleye of any size. The best tips that an angler can receive concern the line, bait, stroke, crankbaits and the method of trolling for walleye. You want to fish just before dawn and just after sunset. However, if there is an overcast day with a slight wind ruffling the water, you could fish all day. No the water and understand the walleye habits before you throw out the fishing line.

Line

The fishing line should be light weight. The best test line to use would be a four to six pound test. The thinner diameter line will offer less resistance and less drag on the lure. Walleye can see and smell, but the vibration in the water will attract the fish more so than any bait that provides no movement. A flapping minnow on the hook will work very well. Remember the time of year and offer the right size bait. In the spring just after spawn, offer something smaller until about later May. The rest of the summer and into fall, offer larger minnows because the walleye are feeding hard because of the cold water temperatures coming and the fish will be less active and don't want to chase food.

The Stroke

You have to know how to do the stroke if you are going to catch walleye. Some anglers will viciously jerk the rod and line, which is causing vibration, but this type of stroke is going to scare the fish away. The stroke must be gentle and smooth. So that if you get a bite, you don't pull the bait right out of the walleye's mouth or disturb the flow of the water around the bait.

Crankbaits

Use the crankbaits with a smooth and even pump or stroke. If you cast into the water, allow the bait to drop to the depth that you need and slowly take up any slack on the line so that you have the depth that you want and not slack in the line. You can keep repeating this action in different areas in your zone area. The walleye can be a funny fish to catch if the water is disturbed to much, so you need to practice being slow and not make so must turbulence in the water. Crankbaits are your friend if you use them right.
