Whether you're going to use a search engine optimisation service or take a d-i-y approach, take a look at these link building tips to make sure that you keep your link building on the straight and narrow.
1. Link diversity
Link building is one of the foundations of search engine optimisation but you need to use a mixture of sources for your links. Otherwise you run the risk of putting all your eggs in one basket and if, for whatever reason, the single link source you were relying on dries up or falls out of favour with Google, you're in panic mode.
2. Different URLs in your site
There's always a temptation to point all links back to your main (index) page but it's a good idea to mix in different URLs within your website into the backlinks mix. This is especially true if you have specialist pages on certain topics.
3. Use a mixture of follow and no-follow links
Some so-called search engine experts claim that you should only have "follow" links pointing to your site. The problem if you do that is that it looks a lot less natural to Google than getting a mixture of follow and no-follow links. In fact, if all your inbound links are "follow" ones then Google is very likely to get suspicious, which won't help your search engine rankings.
4. Use a mixture of Page Ranks
Much the same as not using only "follow" links. Google expects a natural mix of page ranks from the sites pointing to your site. Sure, everyone would like to have high page rank links pointing to them but in the real world, most pages have a low page rank so it figures that most of the links pointing to your site should be of fairly low page rank as well.
5. Use different "anchor" text
It's unnatural if all the links pointing to your site have precisely the same anchor text. Again, it's a far more natural pattern if they have a mixture of wordings and if some of them just use your URL as the anchor text rather than words.
Follow these simple link building tips and you'll be ahead of a lot of your competition.
